Bachelor of Education Arts

This programme aims at producing graduates with:

  • A solid grounding in the principle and practice of education
  • An understanding of relevant educational theories and practices

  • The ability to teach arts subjects and humanities effectively

Programme Objectives 
By the end of the program, a graduate of Bachelor of Education Arts is expected to:

  • Acquire the relevant knowledge, attitude and skills necessary for working in secondary schools and post-secondary institutions in Kenya and abroad
  • Analyze and recommend improvements to educational policies
  • Analyze and recommend improvements on the art of teaching Arts Subjects
  • Apply educational theories to their daily teaching assignments in Arts Subjects
  • Analyze educational issues related to the teaching of Arts subjects.
  • Develop and apply educational policies pragmatically
  • Work within existing ethical, legal and regulatory frameworks in education institutions
  • Support the principles of modern educational practices in line with current educational systems and needs
  • Teach Arts subjects effectively in Kenya according to the requirements of Vision 2030.
  • Apply Knowledge, and skills in various Arts subjects

Learning Outcomes
During the program students will learn how to:

  • Analyze educational issues related to the teaching of arts subjects.

  • Work within existing ethical, legal and regulatory frameworks in education institutions
  • Support the principles of modern educational practices in line with current educational systems and needs
  • Teach arts subjects effectively in Kenya and other countries

  • Adopt relevant attitudes necessary for effective teaching and transfer of knowledge in the arts subjects

Duration of Bachelor of Education (ARTS)
The programme takes a minimum of four (4) academic years and a maximum of (7) academic years, each comprising two semesters on a full-time mode of study. Each semester is 15 weeks long, comprising 13 teaching weeks and two weeks of examinations. For the purposes of part-time modes of study, each academic year is sometimes referred to as a learning level (1 to 4) within programme documentation. Normally a part-time student would be expected to complete each academic year of study within two calendar years.

  • Holders of diploma in education (Arts) from Kabarak University or a recognized university will enter the degree programme in year 2 semester 2 and take five semesters.
  • Holders of P1 teacher certificate will enter at year 1 semester 1 and therefore take 8 semesters including teaching practice without exemptions.

Bachelor of Education Science

The Bachelor of Education (Science) program prepares science teachers to handle instructional, advisorial, measurement, evaluation, mentorship and research roles in the field of education. It also prepares teachers to handle managerial tasks in the schools and middle level colleges in Kenya. The program incorporates both theory and practice.
Goal of the programme
The general purpose of the program is to train and equip teachers with pedagogical techniques and to transmit knowledge and skills in various sciences such as Physics, Biology, chemistry and computer Studies. It also enables teachers to acquire relevant attitude necessary for productive performance in the field of teaching and research.
Rationale of the Programme
There is need to meet the demand for science teachers in Kenya. For one, Science courses are compulsory in the K.S.C.E Exams. Secondly, Kenya is a middle income Country seeking to industrialize and attain technological development by 2030. Bachelor of Education in Education (Science) Program is prepared to meet the increasing needs of students/educators who are seeking to get more knowledge in pedagogy and core areas of teaching subjects. Kabarak University focuses on holistic education that meets the physical as well as the spiritual needs of its students. With the growth in educational institutions, it is apparent that the program will attract teachers who wish to further their careers in Education (Science). The program offers the students a chance to build sound knowledge in various scientific fields such as Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Studies while at the same time giving the learning process a practical approach. The degree program will provide knowledge and skills to those who wish to pursue specific areas in Education Courses as well as the above Sciences. It will also enrich policy making in the respective fields mentioned above.

Program Goal
The goal of Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling is to impart knowledge and skills and relevant attitudes on a wide range of issues in theories of Guidance and Counseling, legal and moral issues in Guidance and Counseling, techniques in counseling, psychopathology, psychometrics as well as research in guidance and counseling.

Program Goal

Minimum University entrance Bachelors Degree requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree programmes require a minimum mean grade of C+ (C Plus) in KCSE. OR
  • A minimum of Credit Pass at diploma level or equivalent qualifications from recognized institutions. OR
  • 2 Principal Passes at ‘A’ level obtained at one sitting OR two Principal Passes obtained at different sittings provided the scores are of grade C and above.
  • Applicants must also meet additional entry requirement as may be specified by respective departments.
  • Applications from mature students will be considered subject to them satisfying the University’s Conditions of Admission.
  • Diploma holders in teacher education with a minimum of C+ at KCSE and two years’ experience in teaching.
  • P1 teachers certificate holders with a minimum of C+ at KCSE and two years of teaching experience.

Bachelor of Theology

The main goal of the programme is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of theological and biblical studies. The programme aims at providing students with a combination of knowledge, biblical/Christian values/attitudes, skills, and application of theory to ministry situations in the Church in Africa and beyond. The graduates are expected to qualify for employment in the church as pastors, missionaries, chaplains and teachers in secondary schools and lecturers in Bible colleges or institutions.
Expected Learning Outcomes of the Programme
At the end of the program, a graduate of Bachelor of Theology should have skills to perform the following tasks:
1. Communicate effectively the Word of God to others through preaching, evangelism and discipleship.
2. Demonstrate a genuine concern for Missionary efforts
3. Defend the Christian faith effectively.

5. Teach effectively the Word of God to various age groups in different church contexts

Admissions Requirements
All applicants into this Bachelor of Theology programme must have the following entry requirements:
a) Must have passed with at least a C+ mean grade at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E)
b) OR Two Principal passes at ‘A’ level obtained at one sitting or two Principal Passes obtained at different sittings.
c) OR Credit pass at Diploma level from a recognized / accredited Bible College with a G.P.A. of at least 3.0 in a scale of 4:0.
d) Must have a conviction of God’s call to Ministry as evidenced by recommendations given by the church leadership.
e) Must provide original K.C.S.E Certificate, diploma, degree or its equivalent obtained prior to coming to the University

Bachelor of Arts in Church Music and Theology (Theology Major)

Bachelor of Arts in Church Music and Theology is a four-year programme.
Goal of the Programme
The Bachelor of Arts in Church Music and Theology (Theology Major) programme prepares the clergy and church musicians for preaching, counseling, composition, teaching, research, conducting and leadership roles in the church music, theology and other institutions. The programme incorporates both theory and practice. The general purpose of the programme is to train and equip the clergy and theologians as well as music directors, lay persons, with knowledge, values/attitudes and skills in church music and theology so as to work competently, and to pursue further studies in church music and theology.
Expected Learning Outcomes of the Programme
1. Preach the Word of God effectively
2. Offer counseling services to the church
3. Manage church resources effectively
4. Conduct church education programmes
5. Defend the Christian faith effectively
6. Compose and perform various works of church Music based on biblical teachings and doctrines.
7. Perform African and Western church music including incidental music for church drama
8. Perform African and Western popular gospel music.
9. Analyze selected works of church music in the medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic and twentieth century periods.
10. Apply and use music notation software programs to write church music
11. Conduct various choirs and instrumental ensembles playing church music.
12. Manage various choral organizations in churches
Admissions Requirements
