About KMTC Department of Occupational Therapy

The department has a long history dating back to 1967 when formal training of Occupational Therapists began. Six (6) students were admitted at inception and they later graduated in I970 beginning KMTC’s long standing tradition of producing competent health care professional in the field.
The department has witnessed phenomenal growth since it began with the number of students per intake ranging from between 45 and 60 students. Presently, there are more than 464 students undertaking the course at the department. It is estimated that this program has graduated over 2500 Occupational therapists to date.
We as a program is committed to training students to acquire knowledge, develop skills and attitudes to treat any physical or mental problem that interferes with a person’s ability to perform activities of daily living for anyone from young children to older adults
Through training, our students be able to; carry out assessment of clients’/patients’ challenges and needs, prioritize their needs,  plan for appropriate intervention strategies and carry out treatment and care plan. The overall goal is to enable performance of tasks of our clientele towards living an independent, healthy, meaningful and productive life in all human spheres with limited help, or with the use of devices
As evidenced by our long history, we have been producing competent Occupational therapists for the Kenyan and global markets for more than 50 years. This impressive tradition is what will be part of you when you join the KMTC department of Occupational therapy.
