The Mechanical Engineering Department has existed since the inception of the Meru College of Technology in 1984 later Meru University College of Science and Technology and finally Meru University of Science and Technology that was given Charter to operate as a full-fledged public university in 2013.Mechanical Engineering Department

The department initially offered craft and diploma courses in automotive engineering examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). The department, part of the recently established School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) currently offers a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering, diploma in Mechatronic Engineering and certificate in motor vehicle technology.

Plans are under way to offer a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and later Petroleum Engineering, Chemical and Processing Engineering as well as Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering in order to address the current and future national labour needs and also towards attainment of the objectives of Kenya Vision 2030 and beyond.

The department is equipped with the state of the art training facilities that includes laboratories and workshops with CNC (computer numerically controlled) machines as well computers with internet access for research and training. We look forward to fulfilling our mandate of equipping young Kenyans with the necessary skills to drive this country and humanity forward.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department

The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department has existed since 2003 under the then Meru College of Technology, which later became the Meru University College of Science and Technology and eventually the Meru University of Science and Technology in 2013 after receiving a charter.

Since its inception, the department offered craft courses examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). In 2010, the department introduced Diploma and Certificate courses which it offered under the School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE). In 2014, the department started offering degree courses in Engineering Technology under the Engineering department. In July 2016, the school of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) was formed, after the splitting of the initially one Engineering department into three departments (Civil, Electrical and Mechanical). The department of Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering currently operates under SEA.

There are plans to establish a bachelor of engineering degree course in Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering department to help diversify workforce to meet the demand for diversity in the rapidly growing industrial environment.

The department, through the support of the University, has acquired excellent equipment and training facilities that embrace modern technology to ensure learners are equipped with skills relevant to the latest technology. We feel sufficiently empowered to announce to Kenyans and the world in general that we are ready to equip them with knowledge to face tomorrow with courage.
