DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES
- To increase enrollment from 150 students to 200 students by the end of December 2018
- To increase pass rate from 70% to 100% by the end November 2018
- To solve customers complaints within two days of receiving the complaints.
DEPARTMENTAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Department of Applied Sciences is one of the well-performing departments in Sang’alo Institute of Science and Technology. It is headed by Miss Lily Simasiand has an efficient qualified staff of thirteen lectures and one lab technologist both on a permanent and part-time basis.
History has it that the department admitted its first students in the year 2000 and offered only one course which was a Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), with a population of about six students. With time Diploma in Applied Biology (DAB) course was also started. Currently, Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (DAC) is also on and we are in the process of starting Medical Laboratory Sciences and in-service courses in Science Laboratory Technology and Applied biology. The enrolment in the department has been increasing over years. SLT now has 90 students, DAB has 40 students and DAC has 11 students.
The department has a spacious science complex with three well equipped laboratories, eight lecture rooms and a computer lab. Our laboratories can also attract researchers in chemistry, physics and biology at a reasonable bench fee.

Grandaunts with a certificate in Science Laboratory Technology can proceed to do a diploma in the same course then a degree or a higher national diploma. This will allow him/her to work even at university laboratories. Grandaunts with a diploma in Applied Biology and Analytical Chemistry can undertake a degree in the same to the level of PhD.
