A. Introduction

The University of Nairobi is a leading institution for offering higher education by ODeL modes for its external programmes as well as for its internal programmes. This is done through Open, Distance, and e- Learning in collaboration with internal Faculties, Schools and Institutes guided by clear policies and regulations that are compliant with the national standards and regulations of quality assurance and quality control at university level. ODeL programmes are especially popular with working people because of their inherent flexibility allowing them to work and study at the same time. B.Modes of Delivery

The main media of instruction comprise specially developed self-instructional materials available in print and electronic modes online and offline supported by limited face to face and continuous interaction with tutors online. There are also audio CDs and printed modules and access to additional selected reading materials from Open Educational Resources. In addition, there are e-Books, e-Journals and Papers in the University Repository accessible to the students. The modules have incorporated the best classroom practices which make them learner friendly and very interactive. Learner support services are provided which include capacity building for learners to enable them undertake their studies without difficulties, introduction of the courses, online tuition and revisions towards the end of the semester. C. Programmes

The programmes are offered in collaboration with the following schools/faculties: School of Open and Distance Learning; School of Education; Faculty of Arts; School of Business; Schools of Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences and Mathematics; Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Agriculture.

Postgraduate Programmes

1.Master of Arts in Project Planning and Management(MA PP&M) Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)Holder of Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with at least 2nd Class honors, Upper Division or its equivalent.

(ii)A holder of Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with at least 2nd Class honors, Lower Division with 2 years relevant work experience

(iii)A holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with at least a Pass with a Postgraduate Diploma or three years relevant working experience.

2.Master of Arts in Peace Education (MAPE)

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)A holder of a Bachelors’ Degree with at least Second Class Honours Degree, Upper Division of the University of Nairobi, or an equivalent qualification from other institutions recognized by Senate.

(ii)A holder of a Bachelors’ Degree, Second Class, Lower Division with at least 2 years of relevant working experience.

(iii)A holder of a Bachelors’ Degree with a Pass and at least three years of relevant working experience or Postgraduate Diploma.

(iv)Any other qualification equivalent to the above from institutions recognized by University of Nairobi Senate.

3.Master of Distance Education (MDE) Minimum Admission Requirements

(i) A holder of a Bachelor degree of at least Lower 2nd Class Honors’ of the University of Nairobi or equivalent qualifications from other institutions recognized by Senate

(ii) Holders of a Bachelors’ Pass degree with a Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent.

(iii)Holders of Bachelor’ Pass degree and three years experience in distance education institution

4.Master of Education in Administration and Planning

Minimum Admissions Requirements

(i)A holder of a Bachelors degree of the University of Nairobi with two subjects studied at secondary level or primary and diploma teacher training colleges.

(ii)Holders of a degree of equivalent qualifications obtained from other institutions recognized by Senate of the University of Nairobi.

(iii)A holder of any other Bachelor’s degree of the University of Nairobi with at least an Upper Second Class Honor’s and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or equivalent qualifications from other Universities recognized by Senate.

(iv)Applicants who wish to specialize in Economics of Education or Educational Planning must have studied Economics as a subject in their Bachelor’s degree.

5.Master of Education in Educational Foundations Minimum Admissions Requirements

(i)A holder of a Bachelor’s degree of the University of Nairobi with two subjects studied at secondary level or primary and diploma teacher training colleges.

(ii)Holders of a degree of equivalent qualifications obtained from other institutions recognized by Senate of the University of Nairobi as a comparable academic status.

(iii)A holder of any other Bachelor’s degree of the University of Nairobi with at least an Upper Second

Class Honours and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or equivalent qualifications from other Universities recognized by Senate.

6.Master of Science in Climate Change Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)Holder of at least an upper second class honour’s degree or equivalent in non-classified degrees from a recognized university,

(ii) Holder of lower second class with at least two years of relevant work experience after graduation, Holder of a pass degree with at least three years of relevant work experience after graduation

7.Master of Science in Crop Protection (M.Sc. CP)

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)A holder of a degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Botany and Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Horticulture or related plant science degree or Bachelor of Education in Science with botany and zoology option and any other relevant subject from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by senate. (ii)A holder of a degree with at least Lower Second Class Honours in any of the disciplines specified in (a) above with two years of relevant experience or a postgraduate diploma in (a) above or

equivalent from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate.

(iii)A holder of a pass degree in the disciplines specified (a) above with at least five years work experience in agricultural related field.

8. Master of Science in Agricultural Resource Management (M.Sc. ARM)

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)A holder of Bachelor of Science degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours or equivalent in Agricultural Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science, Forestry and other relevant disciplines from the University of Nairobi or any other equivalent institutions recognized by Senate.

(ii)A holder of a Bachelor’s degree, of Lower Second Class Honours in any of the degree categories specified in (a) above with a relevant Postgraduate Diploma or other equivalent qualifications from the University of Nairobi or any other equivalent institution recognized by Senate or with at least two years relevant work experience.

(iii)A holder of pass degree in any of the degree categories specified in (a) above with a relevant Postgraduate Diploma or other equivalent qualifications from the University of Nairobi or any other equivalent institution recognized by Senate, and at least two years of relevant work experience

9.Master of Veterinary Public Health (MVPH) Entry Requirements

(i)Holders of the degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, or Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi.

(ii)Holders of Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Technology, Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management, Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Biotechnology, or Bachelor of Science in zoology from the University of Nairobi.

(iii)Holders of Equivalent degrees from other universities recognized by senate.

10.Master of Arts in Religious Studies

With specializations in African Religion, Islam, Judaism, Old Testament, Religions of African Origin, Christianity Old Testament and Religious Studies in Africa.

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)Candidates must satisfy the common regulations for Masters Degree applicable to the Faculty of Arts.

(ii) In addition a candidate must have obtained at least 2nd Class Honor’s Upper Division of the University of Nairobi or its equivalent.

(iii)A candidate must have studied Religious Studies and obtained an honours in the Bachelor’s of the University of Nairobi or its equivalent.

(iv)A candidate who has obtained an equivalent qualifications in Religious Studies from other institutions recognized by Senate.

11.Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) Minimum Admission Requirements

Holder of a bachelor’s degree of the University of Nairobi or its equivalent

Undergraduate Programmes

1.Bachelor of Project Planning and Management (B. PPM)

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i) Holder of KCSE Certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English or Kiswahili

(ii) Holder of KACE Certificate with a minimum of two Principal passes and one Subsidiary pass and a minimum of a Credit pass in mathematics at KCE.

(iii)Holder of degree from a recognized university.

(iv)Holders of Diploma from a recognized institution with a minimum of mean grade C at KCSE or Div. III at KCE.

(v)Holders KCSE with a minimum grade of c- plus certificate from recognized Institution and of Diploma from a recognized institution

(vi)Holders of CPA/CPS Pat II or equivalent professional qualifications plus a minimum C mean grade

2.Bachelor of Commerce (B. COMMwith specializations in Finance; Accounting; Human Resource Management; Risk Management & Insurance; Business Information Systems;

Procurement and Supply Chain Management; Operations Management and Marketing

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)Holder of KCSE Certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English or Kiswahili

(ii)Holder of KACE Certificate with a minimum of two Principal passes and one Subsidiary pass and a minimum of a Credit pass in mathematics at KCE.

(iii)Holders KCSE with a minimum grade of c- plus certificate from recognized Institution and of Diploma from a recognized institution

3.Bachelor of Education (Arts)

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)Holders of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum aggregate score of C+, or equivalent

(ii)Holders of Diploma from University of Nairobi or other recognized institutions and an aggregate score of C in KCSE or equivalent

(iii)Holders of mean grade C- in KCSE or equivalent plus a Certificate and Diploma from a recognized institution

(iv)Holders of ‘A’ Level with two Principal Passes in one sitting or equivalent in relevant subjects

(v)holders of CPA II/CPS II/CIPS or equivalent for Commerce and Arts and an aggregate of C in

KCSE or ‘O’ Level Division III

(vi)Holders of P1 certificate from a two year post secondary training institution recognized by

Senate

(vii)Holders of Higher National Diploma in relevant fields with an aggregate of C in KCSE

(viii)Holders of a Degree Certificate from a recognized University

(ix)Equivalent qualifications to the above from institutions recognized by Senate.

4.Bachelors of Education (Science) Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus) and a minimum of C+ in two (2) science subjects

(ii) KACE with two (2) Principal Passes in Two (2) science subjects.

(iii)Diploma or S1 holders in science and education with KCSE mean grade C (plain)/Division II

(iv)Diploma in science with KCSE mean grade C- minus/Div III plus a professional Certificate from a recognized institution

(v) Trained P1 Teachers with KCSE mean grade C (plain)/Div. II

(vi)KNEC Diploma in Science or its equivalent as determined by KNEC with a KCSE mean grade C (plain)

5.Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education & Extension (B.Sc. AE&E) Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)A mean grade of C+ in Biology of Biological Science, Physical Science and Mathematics. (ii) Holder of KACE or equivalent with2 Principal Passes in relevant subjects

(iii) ‘A’ Level with two principal passes in relevant subjects

(iv) Holder of a Diploma from a recognized Agriculture or Veterinary College with a pass at credit or distinction level. Holder of a degree from recognized university.

(v) KCSE Mean grade C- plus a certificate and diploma

(vi) Holder of Higher National Diploma from a recognized institution.

6.Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)A Holder of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum aggregate performance of C+ or its equivalent qualifications.

(ii)A holder of professional qualifications such as Diploma in Early childhood Education or Diploma in Education or Teachers Certificate (S1) from recognized institutions or its equivalent qualifications.

(iii)Holders KCSE with a minimum grade of c- plus certificate from recognized Institution and of Diploma from a recognized institution

(iv)A trained primary school teacher of P1 grade and minimum teaching experience of three

years.

(v)A holder of Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) with a minimum of Two principal passes or its approved equivalent qualifications.

(vi)A holder of other degrees from a recognized university.

(vii)Any other qualifications equivalent to the above recognized by the University of Nairobi

7.Bachelor of Arts with specialization in one or two of the following: Tourism; History; Archeology; Sociology and Social Work; Political Science; Public Administration; Linguistics and English; Literature in English; Kiswahili Studies; Arabic Studies; Language and Communication;

Psychology (Counseling); Psychology; Geography and Environmental Studies; Philosophy and Religious Studies.

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i) K.C.S.E with a mean grade of C+ or equivalent

(ii)K.C.S.E with a C plain or equivalent or K.C.E Div. III plus a Diploma or Equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution.

(iii)Holders KCSE with a minimum grade of c- plus certificate from recognized Institution and of Diploma from a recognized institution

(iv)K.A.C.E or E.A.A.C.E Certificate with one Principal Pass Plus a Diploma or Equivalent qualifications from recognized institution.

(v) K.A.C.E or E.A.A.C.E Certificate with two Principal Passes or equivalent.

(vi)A Degree from a recognized University or equivalent

8.Bachelor of Sciences (B.Sc.) with specialization in Geology; Microbiology and Biotechnology; Industrial and Analytical Chemistry; Meteorology; Mathematics; Zoology; Botany and Geography and Environmental Studies.

Minimum Admission Requirements

(i)KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus) and a minimum of C+ in two (2) science subjects

(ii) KACE with two (2) Principal Passes in Two (2) science subjects.

(iii)KNEC Diploma in Science or its equivalent as determined by KNEC with a KCSE mean grade C (plain)

Step 2 Registration and creation of user account which requires you to have a valid email address Step 3 Profile management which involves keying in your personal details

Step 4 Uploading of testimonials: Upload scanned copies of academic certificates and passport photo before applying

for the programme you wish to take

Step 5 Select and apply for the Course you wish to study. The system will issue you a Reference Numbe and direct
