Course Details

The course is designed to train health workers who will be responsible for addressing community health challenges at community level through effective implementation of health interventions using a multi-sectoral approach.
The curriculum is advised by Amref Health Africa firm foundation in the practice of community health at all levels for over 60 years in over thirty five (35) African countries.
The course will equip learners with knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and competencies that will be useful in facilitating development and implementation of appropriate community health interventions for disease prevention and the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Learners will gain hands on experience throughout the training through Amref Health Africa projects and programmes in region.

 Y1S2 Module 2

  • Behaviour, Health Education and Health Promotion

  • Prevention and Control of Common Diseases

  • Community Based Health Care

  • Family Health and Nutrition

Y1S3 Module 3

  • Teaching Methodology

  • Environmental and Occupational Health

  • Disaster Preparedness and Management

  • Health Services Management

  • Research Project

  • Electives

 

Admission Requirements

Either·         Mean grade of at least a C (plain) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) level or its equivalent with minimum of C plain in English and Biology/Biological Sciences and a minimum of C- in any Two of the following Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry
Or
Pass in a certificate in community health or any other qualification recognized by the University Senate
 

Career Destinations

  • Field extension workers at county government community health programmes, non-governmental organizations (NGO) implementing health projects
  • Offers the opportunities to upgrade to graduate level and grow into project and programme manager roles.
