NIBS E-learning
This distance learning platform enables students to undertake their courses and continuous assessment tests online. It has its main offices at Nairobi Institute of Business Studies Ruiru Campus, Thika Road Kimbo Exit 13. The platform is ideal for those who come from far-flung areas, working or those who are too busy to attend lectures. It was set up in September, 2015 in order to coordinate the Institutions distance learning and generate innovative ways including student support systems to ensure that our students enjoy an e-learning platform that is not only convenient but focused on quality teaching and learning.
Our e-learning model is designed to fit your busy schedule, which means you can participate in online classes on a daily or weekly basis whenever it’s convenient for you. The flow of online dialogue is preserved so you can follow and contribute to your classmates’ conversation as it unfolds and return to it as a reference. Our virtual classroom also features a syllabus that includes your learning objectives, audio visual notes, notes in PDF, e-library segment an assignment schedule, and information on examination periods.
Online resources
You’ll have access to online resources such as podcasts, broadcasts, computer software and interactive teaching materials; and a dedicated website for the module you’re studying. Our huge online library has thousands of online e-journals, eBooks, databases and multimedia resources for you to tap into, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, whenever you need them and wherever you are.
Essential extras
You’ll get a study timetable to help you plan your reading, activities and assignments; details of when and where tutorials and study days will take place (which could be face-to-face or online) and the dates and venues of any exams. And before you begin an online induction programme to familiarize you with the style of learning.
How will you study?
With the e-learning, you can study at home or at work, on the move or on the bus – reading, watching and listening, doing activities and assignments, taking part in debates and discussions. You get regular support from your tutor and Student Support Team, and you’ll be able to get together with other students online, at group tutorials and through informal study groups.
Support before you begin, and throughout your studies
We make sure that you get the best possible start to your journey. Our online induction programme will familiarize you with distance learning and your chosen subject, and show you how to get the best from your time with us. Then for every module you study, you’ll have an expert tutor to offer academic guidance and advice, provide feedback on your coursework, and lead group tutorials. You can contact them online, by email and on the phone. Once you’ve registered with us you will be allocated to a specialist Student Support Team for the subject area you have chosen. You’ll also have access to a huge range of information and advice online, our computing help desk and careers information.
