Bachelor Degree Programmes

1. BACHELOR OF BUSINESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (BBIT)
Why study Bachelor of Business Information Technology?
Bachelor of Business Information Technology degree prepares candidates to become specialists in the Information Technology needs of modern businesses. The course is structured to focus on issues surrounding the strategic use, development, implementation and management of computer systems. It includes creating critical awareness of the need to align Information Systems and Information Technology with an organisation’s long-term strategy. Courses in humanities and ethics are included to address the need for a wider consideration of issues in business decision-making.

What is the programme designed for?

It is designed to meet the increasing demand in the market place for IT professionals with a wide knowledge of business management, technical skills and the capacity to harness and implement IT strategies taking advantage of emerging technologies. Secondary school leavers who have attained the minimum qualification will benefit to start a career in Information Technology. The programme is also open to applicants who possess relevant qualifications for admission to a degree programme.

What profession will the student be after graduating?

Candidates are prepared to work as project managers, System Designers, Information Systems Developers, etc.
Programme Duration and Course Structure
All Bachelors degree courses shall be offered in SIX academic semesters organised in THREE academic years. At the end of Year II, a student who will have completed and passed all the units has to undertake and pass Industrial attachment for eight (8) weeks. Each semester will have a maximum of nine (9) units and a minimum of seven (7) units. Courses shall be offered in terms of units with one unit consisting of a minimum of 35 contact hours. For this purpose a one-hour lecture is equivalent to a two-hour tutorial or a three-hour practical period or an equivalent amount of other assigned study or practical experience or any combination of these that may be approved by the University Senate.
2. BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (BCOM)
Why study Bachelor of Commerce?
The Bachelor of Commerce is intended to provide students with business; ethical and technological skills required by commerce and industry and at the same time meet the quality requirements of the University. The course is intended to be modular in nature and allow for credit transfer, where necessary, in order to give flexibility to meet the needs of the business sector.

What is the programme designed for?

It is designed to develop a theoretical and technical understanding of Accounting, Finance, Banking, Marketing, Administration and Human Resources Management concepts and practices and the ability to cope with future developments. Secondary school leavers who have attained the minimum qualification for university admission and who wish to start a career in business and management will benefit this programme. The programme is also open to persons in employment who possess relevant qualification for admissions to a degree programme.

What profession will the student be after graduating?

To prepare the students for progression to higher degree work and research in Accounting, Finance, Administration, Banking, Marketing and Human Resources Management and related business areas.
Programme Duration and Course Structure
The programme will run for a maximum of six (6) semesters. The period of the Industrial Attachment will be part of the programme duration. The Industrial Attachment will take eight (8) weeks. Entry Requirements for Bachelor Degree Programmes
i. Be a holder of Ordinary Level Certificate with at least three credits(C and above) or five passes (D) in relevant subjects including English and Mathematics and Advanced Level Certificate with at least two principals in Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Commerce, Geography, History with a minimum of 2.5 grade points for Bachelor of Commerce whereby A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1, S=0.5, F=0
ii. Be a holder of Ordinary Level Certificate with at least three credits(C and above) or five passes (D) in relevant subjects including English and Mathematics and Advanced Level Certificate with at least two principals in Mathematics and Physics/ Economics/ Geography with a minimum of 2.5 grade points for Bachelor of Business Information TechnologyOR
iii. Be a holder of Ordinary Level Certificate with at least three credits or five passes in relevant subjects including English and Mathematics and a relevant accredited Diploma of not less than distinction or credit.
3. BACHELOR OF DEVELOPMENT STUDIES (B-DEV)

Application for admission to any degree programme starts from May for September Intake, and it is done through Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).
