Diploma in Petroleum Geoscience is an interdisciplinary program in the Department of Mining & Geoscience designed to enhance both critical thinking and the technical skills that serve as the scientific foundation for practicing petroleum managers. Workshops, lectures and field trips enable students to learn about pressing scientific problems in petroleum exploration and production. At the conclusion of the final module, students are required to complete three (3) months of industrial attachment. Students who graduate from this program will gain mid-level technical and management positions in the Oil & Gas industry. The college has partnered with several relevant companies to ensure every student benefit from this experience, and enters the marketplace fully prepared for careers in the emerging Oil and Gas sector in Kenya, Uganda and Southern Sudan.

Course Outcome

At the conclusion of the certificate program you should be able to:
  • Efficiently apply Information Technology in the Oil & Gas sector
  • Efficiently complete Research, write technical documents and communicate findings
  • Have a solid understanding of geology, Oil Exploration, drilling and production
  • Understand Environmental Health Safety Policy issues related to the Oil & Gas sector
  • Understand Workshop Technologies (machines and tools) & Practices
  • Understand the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Have solid understanding of Financial Accounting in the Oil & Gas sector
The students are also required to complete a three (3) months of industrial attachment before they can be awarded the Diploma. The college has partnered with several relevant companies to ensure every student benefits from this experience. We expect our students to enter the marketplace fully prepared for careers in the emerging Oil and Gas sector in Kenya, Uganda and Southern Sudan. Admission Criteria

Direct Entry: 
  • A minimum overall KCSE Grade of C- (Minus)
  • Certificate in Petroleum Geoscience or Equivalent
PRE-Admission:
  • A minimum Grade of D (Plain)
    Students enrolling for a Diploma with D Plain will be required to complete Four modules to be awarded a Diploma.

Diploma in Process Technology – Metal Production

Course Overview
The program is designed to provide a solid foundation in metal processing technology for iron, steel, aluminum and other non-ferrous industrial metals. At the conclusion of the program, students are required to complete three (3) months industrial attachment. The college has partnered with several relevant companies to ensure every student benefit from this experience, and enters the marketplace fully prepared for a career in the various metal processing plants in the region.

Course Structure

Diploma Level 3 (Diploma) consists of twelve (12) units with a total of 580 lecture hours. The college recommends 18 months to successfully complete the Diploma program. A minimum KCSE overall Grade of D+ (Plus) or equivalent is required to enroll in the program. Examinations can be taken as single units based on City & Guilds Examination schedule. At the conclusion of the program, students are required to complete three (3) months industrial attachment and an internal research project.

 

Diploma in Minerals Resource Processing

Course Overview
The program is designed to provide the mining Industry with competent and safety conscious Technicians with a broad grounding in the theory and practical aspects of science, engineering and ancillary disciplines relating to mining. Further, the program will equip students with knowledge and skills that will add value in the mining related operations in the region by highlighting best practices in areas of relevance to the mining industry, including issues of sustainable development.

Course Structure

This is a modular program examined by the college with demonstrated competences in the industry. Diploma course consists of eight (8) terms, each three (3) months long. A minimum KCSE overall Grade of C- (Minus) or equivalent, with passes in mathematics and any science subject is required to enroll in the program. Examinations are taken at the conclusion of every term, and students must pass the examination to advance to the next term. At the conclusion of the program, students are required to complete three (3) months industrial attachment.

Certificate in Petroleum Geoscience

Course Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Petroleum Geoscience is an interdisciplinary program in the Department of Mining & Geosciences designed to enhance both critical thinking and the technical skills that serve as the scientific foundation for practicing petroleum geoscience. Workshops, lectures and field trips enable students to learn about pressing scientific problems in petroleum exploration and production. Students who graduate from this program will gain junior technical and management positions in the Oil & Gas industries. At the conclusion of the final module, students are required to complete three (3) months of industrial attachment. The college has partnered with several relevant companies to ensure every student benefit from this experience, and enters the marketplace fully prepared for careers in the emerging Oil and Gas sector in Kenya, Uganda and Southern Sudan.

Course Structure
The course is delivered as a modular program examined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).  A minimum KCSE overall Grade of D (Plain) or equivalent, with passes in mathematics and any science subject is required to enroll in the program. The course consists of three (2) modules, each six (6) months long. Examinations are taken at the conclusion of every module.

Certificate in Minerals Resource Processing

Certificate in Process Technology – Petroleum Operations

Course Overview
The program is designed to provide a solid foundation of the Oil & Gas industry with emphasis on the refining of petroleum crude oil and the processing and purifying of raw natural gas, as well as the marketing and distribution of products derived from crude oil and natural gas. The college has partnered with several relevant companies to ensure every student benefit from this experience, and enters the marketplace fully prepared for a career in the various refinery plants in the region.

Course Structure
A non-modular program examined by CITY & GUILDS (United Kingdom). Diploma Level 2 (Certificate) is divided into ten (10) examinable units, requiring a total of 500 lecture hours. A minimum KCSE overall Grade of D- (Minus) or equivalent, with passes in mathematics and any science subject is required to enroll in the program. Examinations can be taken as single units based on City & Guilds Examination schedule. At the conclusion of the program, students are required to complete three (3) months industrial attachment and an internal research project.

Certificate in Mining, Oil & Gas Operations Safety & Health

Course Overview
The program is designed to cover the principles of process safety management in the oil and gas industries. The syllabus takes a risk management approach based on best practice and international industry standards. It is designed to help students rise to the challenge of creating a hazardless oil and gas industry by focusing on Safety and environmental management in this industry, Hydrocarbon process safety, Fire protection and emergency responses.

Course Structure

This is a non-modular program examined by an International examination body (NEBOSH) with demonstrated competences in the industry. Minimum Entry Requirement is KCSE D- (Minus) or equivalent. The course is designed to be completed in 2 terms with examinations taken at the conclusion of the second term. Students must pass all examined units to be awarded a Certificate. The college requires our students to complete a three months industrial attachment.
